Colleges struggles to meet mental health needs
An unprecedented number of students nationwide are seeking counseling for mental health concerns, according to a study released March 27 by the Anxiety Disorder Association of America. "Students suffering from an anxiety disorder may not recognize that they have real, serious and treatable disorders.

CRC responds to shootings

Cho Seung-Hui, 23, took the lives of 32 Virginia Polytechnic Institute students on April 16 in the largest school shooting in United States history. Campus police responded to a 911 call from VT's West Ambler Johnston Residence Hall. Upon arrival, police found two gunshot victims inside a dormitory room according to the Virginia Tech school web site.

NYC takes stand on racial slur

Efforts that began in the beginning of February to ban the N-word in New York City have been successful, according to an article in JET Magazine. On Feb. 28, city council members approved a resolution to ban the N-word with a 49-0 vote. "People are using it [the word] out of context and denigrating themselves by using the word, disrespecting their history, disrespecting a history of a people and a country and also putting themselves in a negative light that we need to correct," said Councilman Leroy Comrie, sponsor of the bill, in an interview with the Associated Press.

Campus expands with new building

Cosumnes River College has a new operations and public safety building on campus. The facility will include the administrative services office, health services, mailroom, duplicating, police imprinting and public safety services. The plans of building this structural facility started June 2004.
