History Professor Jonathan Nielson has been a teacher for 25 years, three of which have been dedicated to Cosumnes River College. His love of history led him to obtain a Bachelor's Degree from the University of California Irvine, a Master's Degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a PhD from the University of California Santa Barbara.
Q: Why did you decide teaching was for you?
A: "My love of history. I started reading history very early and it got me hooked, specially the Civil War, and when I understood how little Americans understood and knew about history I decided to teach."
Q: Would you say teaching has fulfilled you?
A: "Yes, Absolutely, not financially but in other aspects yes."
Q: What do you hope your students have learned from you?
A: "Just an appreciation of history, how important it is, knowledge of history and how it affects them and where they fit in the scheme of things and to appreciate the good things and bad, the mistakes the country has made. History never repeats' it's one of my favorite sayings."
Q: What's your proudest moment?
A: "Seeing students graduate, seeing students transfer to UC or State system and succeed"

A: "I always considered a great moment when I see a light go on, when a student tells me they enjoyed the course."
