The new equipment will be replacing the old, broken machines as well as providing additions that the exercise room hasn't seen before.
"We have many new exciting machines that are being ordered and will be arriving soon," said Brandon Ellis, an instructional assistant at the fitness center.
The exercise room has received four Life Fitness treadmills, two Cybex Arc Trainers and a Summit Trainer (cross-training elliptical machines), a squat power cage and contraptions for exercising the back and stomach muscles.
Josh McCarver is a psychology major, but is taking the fitness course as a general education requirement.
"People will get more exercises in, and there's more stuff for people to use, so you don't have to wait in line as long," said McCarver. "The new equipment is really nice."
Derek Kulbert, a business major who is taking the cardio workout course, agrees.
"I think it's great, because it gets you different parts of your body to work out on," Kulbert said. "And instead of waiting in line when it gets busy in here, there is always more exciting equipment to use."
"These machines will supplement our equipment and bring new exercise options to our already popular center," said Ellis.
There is also a projected move to the second floor of the fitness center to the community and athletic center. It will take place after the planned cafeteria building remodeling project ends and the temporary cafeteria moves back from its designated temporary location on the second floor of the CAC.
Ellis said the future fitness center will be a state-of-the-art room.
"There's going to be a nice view threw the big windows there," Ellis said.
The bigger fitness center will also be able to house more people without overcrowding the room.
When he found out that the fitness center is planning to move, Thomas Esquivel, an automotive mechanics major, asked, "Is the other place going to be bigger? If yes, then I like the idea."
In an email interview with Kristie West, the public information officer at the college, she said, "It will move to the 2nd level of the CAC temporarily. Once the expansion in the College Center (cafeteria and bookstore) is completed, which is expected by fall '10, the fitness center will be moved to the CAC."
The school administration is hesitant to release a specific completion date for the project.
Those students who would like to get a chance to use the future fitness center will have to wait for at least a couple years.
